My Bio

Finding my way to Curtain Call

My work is about the fantastic. My belief is that there is a space within each person where we experience the world more intensely, more richly, than how we could describe to another person. My designs provide the viewer with a fragment of what my imagination embodies, making physical the flush of the skin and susurration of the hair. Taking a script and treating it with the care that I gave my children’s books; I pore over every detail, soaking it up like a sponge, trying to weave it into part of my identity. Only to give it back again, hopefully different from before, but still familiar like wrinkles around a loved one’s eyes. However, choosing how a character presents themselves, is a responsibility not to be taken lightly, I walk with them through their story using their eyes as my lenses to understand their plight or their joy.

I cherish the actor’s form and mind, it’s health and comforts guide me as I choose goo’s and potions together with enabling the ease of removing their mask when the day is done. Because they have thoughtfully picked up the character’s pieces and put the jigsaw puzzle together, the image I provide allows them to brush the new head on, no longer the player, but a new master. The director provides me with the frame, maybe it’s embellished with fleur de lis or maybe the frame looks like it was forgotten years ago. This frame will guide my hand as the lines crawl across my page bordering pigments meticulously chosen, as a child does their favorite collection. Not making a piece to stand alone but melting my vision with the atmosphere and garb that unfurls. Swirls for curls, and height for opulence, rosy cheeks, or a solemn scowl. When all the characters are finished, I gather them together, gazing at them intensely praying I did right by them, hoping I had prepared them enough. The hardest part is about letting them go, and sharing them with the world, but this provides me my nourishment, the richness of tall tales.
